Check pre-certification requirements before non-emergency treatment
Pre-certification requirements, timing, and consequences vary by policy and service. Check your certificate and contact the number on your ID card promptly. For a medical emergency, call 911 or seek immediate care first, then notify the insurer or assistance provider as soon as it is safe to do so. Pre-certification does not guarantee coverage.

Claims tips
- Keep the originals or high-resolution scans of every bill, starting from your very first day of care.
- For a canceled or delayed flight, you need written confirmation from the airline — a verbal explanation is not accepted.
- Using the wrong form or mailing to the wrong address is the most common cause of delays — before you submit, make sure the form matches your claim type.
- In-network care is usually billed directly to the insurer, so your family does not front the cost; out-of-network, you pay first and then request reimbursement.
- If your claim is denied, you have the right to file a written appeal within the stated deadline and to request the insurer's written reason for the denial.
